LAN/WAN

Not only do business applications continue to place huge demands on network bandwidth but also the emerging traffic from voice and video requirements mean network design and implementation become critical to success.

Emmtech are an independent and unbiased provider of network solutions and can utilise products from the world's leading manufacturers to match customer requirements. The coupling of Emmtech's expertise to the appropriate products for the task produces world class networks that our clients are more than willing to confirm.

Emmtech have expertise in all major network areas and invest heavily in the deployment of new technologies. Emmtech were first to deploy ATM and Gigabit networks and are currently active with the IEEE in the emerging Terabit Ethernet products.

Whether local or wide area, distributed or centralised, whether serving employees, suppliers or customers, Emmtech can not only design and implement solutions, but also provide the services and support necessary to keep the network at optimum performance.

Whether your organisation requires a very complex multi-layered network design that will run multiple broadband services or you simply need to increase speed or resilience, Emmtech have the right solutions. Each area of a business may have very different communication requirements and Emmtech's pragmatic approach produces real solutions that can be delivered on time and within budget.

Emmtech specialise in switched network solutions for Ethernet (Fast, Gigabit, Ten Gigabit), Token Ring, FDDI and ATM. For wide area connections, Emmtech is an expert in layer 3 switching solutions using combinations of bandwidth services such as Frame Relay, ATM or ISDN in order to achieve cost-effective carrier charges. The server build services allow Emmtech to design and construct turnkey network solutions. Firewall's and Internet access arrangements are all part of this portfolio

VPN

A Emmtech VPN can allow potential clients to benefit from large cost savings as compared to traditional leased line Wide Area Networks (WAN's). In addition the VPN can become the single network connecting the home and traveling workforce, an organisation's suppliers and customers as well as to simply connecting remote sites.

Virtual Private Networks (VPN) have caused more confusion in the Information Technology Market than almost any other topic. In real terms a VPN is any network that is created to connect sites over an existing public infrastructure. Therefore it can be argued that all WAN's are in fact VPN's. Popular consensus over the term VPN now seems to define a VPN as network that utilises the Internet as the core of the network, however the largest popular misconception is that the internet will create a slow and insecure network. Bandwidth providers can deliver performance warranties that are superior to traditional WAN providers and security can readily be accomplished even at gigabit speed.

The benefits of VPN can be huge, especially in cost terms, but failure to integrate and manage the technology involved can produce drawbacks that can be equally large.

Emmtech take a vendor independent stance to provide solutions varying from Fully Managed Global VPN's to simple remote access dial up solutions. Not only are Emmtech independent of product manufacturers but are independent from the bandwidth providers and as a result can always create VPN's. that fully match client requirements in speed and geographic coverage.

Emmtech are also able to offer direct internet backbone connections to provide VPN's with full QoS (Quality of Service) and also full MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) to provide true broadband services end to end. As voice and video traffic is increasingly carried by the IP protocol, such QoS becomes an essential criteria for success.

IP TELEPHONY / Voice Over Internet Protocol

Since the "Internet Protocol", or "IP" as it is more commonly known, has become the standard for transmission of data across networks all over the globe, there has been an unrelenting drive to use this same transport mechanism to carry voice signals. There are a whole host of benefits to organisations when establishing what is in effect a single network infrastructure for all voice and data traffic:

  • Consolidation of technical skills required by IT staff.
  • Greater return on investment in IT infrastructure.
  • Reduction in costs for voice calls between sites.
  • Wider scope for deploying complimentary applications.
  • Ease of managing a single network.

The difficulty for most companies investigating the technology, is deciphering the confusing messages put out by manufacturers and suppliers of IP Telephony products, as there are many different colours and flavours available. Essentially those approaching from a data background will tend to promote a "fully converged" or "server based" solution whilst those from the voice industry are likely to advocate a "migratory" approach involving a "hybrid solution". This can make the selection of the right system for your organisation fraught with difficulty.

At Emmtech our technical sales consultants, supported by engineers with specialist knowledge and experience, carefully match the business requirement with the most appropriate technological solution. This process will involve giving careful consideration to all the parameters affecting the ultimate recommendation including:

  • Customer preference for specific manufacturers.
  • Protection of investment in existing infrastructure.
  • Existing network upgrade requirements for a fully or partially converged solution.
  • Matching functionality of different telephones with business use (Digital v IP Phone)
  • Future plans for voice related applications (Cti, Video Assistant, etc.)

Due to our long involvement in both the voice and data communications industries, Emmtech are in the position of having well established relationships with most of the major players in this relatively new and exciting field. This effectively means that when seeking our assistance to guide you through the mase of technology in this area, we will put aside the "Manufacturers Hype" and deal only with the realities of what is best for your organisation.

QOS

All multimedia applications and broadband services require an element of QoS (Quality of Service) to ensure the correct operation of the network. This is because historically IP based network technologies were not designed to handle traffic with jitter, latency or other packet conditioning sensitivities. To ensure the network can provide the right level of service to these traffic types, various mechanisms for forcing packet conditioning and prioritisation's are necessary.

Emmtech can design and implement full QoS LAN and WAN (and VPN) solutions utilising both standard based protocols such as 802.1p and proprietary protocols such as Cisco STP as required.

The solutions that Emmtech provide can vary between full MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) VPN implementations to simple 802.1p voice ready data networks.

A key to the success of QoS is management. This is due to the fact QoS networks are completely pervasive, requiring consistent handling throughout the network, and as such all network changes must be managed completely in order to derive the anticipated performance impact that they will have on applications.

LIVE STREAMING
Emmtech are independent from the software and hardware suppliers and will integrate applicable products to form bespoke solutions.
To ensure the security solution maintains its effectiveness Emmtech will fully manage a system including conducting changes to a formal procedure that will be acceptable to those requiring a firm acceptance audit. Research shows that many organisations assume they have protection, but sadly find when tested that the particular parameters have not been enabled or have been enabled incorrectly. Emmtech's experience in providing these systems can therefore give confidence that the security policy is indeed being implemented correctly.
